The solution for this family was to convert some of the space into luxury rentals, the Canova apartments. They are beautifully furnished with antiques, and lead to a rooftop terrace, the former altana, where there are views over the Venetian skyline. (Centuries ago Venetian women used these wooden structures to spread out their hair to dry and bleach in the sun.)
The Times: Venice in winter: quiet canals and ghostly tales

The Times

"Our apartment is warm and light-filled, with enormous beds, shelves of art books and displays of coloured glass. A serene, slippered housekeeper greets us and leads us to the kitchen, where the much-vaunted dinner awaits. It is, all of it, I can safely report, delicious."

Avec un peu de retard, je voulais vous dire que nous avions passé un séjour mémorable à Venise. L’appartement était superbe, la météo était au diapason sans oublier la vie, les musées, la restauration,… Nous reviendrons sûrement.

Venice without the crowds


Now that we are back from Venice I wanted to get in touch with you and thank you. Everything was really lovely. The apartment was perfect. The care, the equipment and the location were wonderful. We really enjoyed the days. The two tours with the guide Fiona you suggested were exciting and very entertaining, despite the heat ?. We went to Al Covo twice for dinner and were very impressed with it. The evening at the Trattoria Anzolo Raffaele was wonderful, the light on the small square was lovely and the archaic little square itself is like pure Italy, the food too! Thank you again for all your tips and we'd love to come back ?.

Biennale and Acqua alta


I just want to say thank you. We had the luck to stay in the Canova Appartement "Canella" last November. Due to rain and wind we had to endure aqua alta. We cannot say how happy we were to have such a perfect place to stay within that restrictions. High above all evil we enjoyed the calmness and warmth of this perfect hideaway. We had lunch, tea and Prosecco and watched from the terrace the water fall again. We had time to discover all the lovely details in the interior design, the perfect colours, from cheerful to comforting. One of our friends, a Viennese architect, was totally enthusiastic. Canova was a better experience than biennale, she said.

Venice Carnival

My husband and I are still spellbound from watching the to and fro on the Grand Canal from the windows of the Borsato apartment. What a treat to experience the Venetian carnival from such an exclusive location.
